ROOF REINFORCEMENT

ROOF REINFORCEMENT

Recent Engineering studies conducted by HRM found that the roof of the Spryfield Recreation Centre does not meet National Building Codes for snow loading. As a result, work is now underway to reinforce the roof structure for the safety of the users and the log term viability of the facility. The structural work includes installation of new purlins and cross-bracing with the existing purlins. The main structural frames will be reinforced by welding additional steel to the undersides of the beams and the inside of the columns. New insulation and LED lighting will also be installed.

Unfortunately, the work necessitates closing of the facility for the duration of the repair. The projected completion date of the project for the rink is the end of August and the end of September for the gym.

The Spryfield Rink and Recreation Board would like to apologize to the users of the centre who have been displaced for the duration of the roof renovation. We very much look forward to seeing you all in the fall.
